Golf carts, why people love to roll baby roll at The Bluffs

Golf carts are a hoot. That’s why, when you own a home at a place like The Bluffs at Huron by Parkbridge, you see a lot of them around. Many of the homeowners at The Bluffs own and use their own golf carts (when the weather allows) to get around easily and quickly. For example, on any given day, you might find a bunch of carts parked outside of The Bluffs Clubhouse (the signature community amenity), while their owners have fun participating in clubs and other activities inside

In a mature adult community like The Bluffs, golf carts do more than help people get around. They open the door to freedom, socializing, and an ease of exploration that makes every day feel like an adventure.

Golf cart lifestyle

Imagine the freedom and fun of jumping in your golf cart whenever you need it. You can start your day by zipping over to the Clubhouse to work out at the gym and maybe a swim and sauna. Then you shoot over to your friend’s place for some lunch before both scooting over to play some pickleball in the afternoon. You might even head back that evening and park in the backyard of the Clubhouse, so you can take in the magnificent sunset with friends.

Cars are great, but nothing beats a golf cart for getting around in a little community like The Bluffs. Everywhere you go in your cart, expect friendly encounters with neighbours, waving hello and stopping for little chats.

Not just for golf

While originally designed for golfers, golf carts today have revolutionized transportation in communities like The Bluffs at Huron in Goderich. Like a car, you can purchase either electric or gas-powered vehicle. The gas-powered carts tend to offer more power and the convenience of filling up quickly and easily. Electric carts, on the other hand, produce zero emissions, require a lot less maintenance, and they are much quieter than gas.

Did you know? The appeal of getting around on golf carts is so great that the Province of Ontario is conducting a 10-year pilot project in select communities to determine how they might safely legalize their use on the roads.

For two, four, even six

While universally compact in design, most golf carts seat two to four passengers. They also come equipped for a flatbed area for carrying cargo, including golf bags and accessories. Importantly, golf carts are not legal to drive on Ontario roads, so you will need to drive or cycle into Goderich. That said, the province has started a pilot project on Pelee Island and in Huron-Kinloss allowing golf carts on the road, so perhaps the rules may change down the road.

But are they safe?

Yes. Their relatively low speed makes them safer than a car. You need a driver’s license to operate a golf cart. And you need to ensure they meet basic safety requirements, including a steering wheel, service brakes, emergency brakes, a rear-view, quality tires, turn signals, brake lights, and reflectors. They aren’t required, but if you prefer the added security for you and your passengers, you can purchase a golf cart with seat belts as well.

Golf cart checklist for buyers

How many passengers? Most golf carts come with two to four seats. The more seats you get, the higher the cost, but the more people you can zip around at once.

How much do you want to spend? In Ontario, the price of new golf carts varies widely depending on the brand, number of seats, and other features, and can cost anywhere from CAD $2,000 to well over $10,000.

Do you need GPS? A GPS system that runs on your phone can help you find the best routes, avoid rough terrain, and monitor your cart’s performance in real-time, but you probably won’t need it in such a small community.

What accessories might you like? Last but never least, you get to personalize your golf cart with fun accessories. From phone holders, decals, and speakers to customized cart and seat covers, you can really express yourself.

Where to shop for golf carts

If you prefer to shop at a store, you can search on Google for a new/used golf cart retail store near you or an e-store that delivers. You can also buy a used golf cart privately on Facebook Marketplace. We checked out listings and saw golf carts near Goderich running anywhere from $1,200 to $7,500, with several in the $3,000 to $5,000 range. Of course, you may want to wait until you move in The Bluffs and ask your new neighbours about their carts, first.

To ensure a good quality golf cart, look for established brands. Some of the best golf cart brands (according to Golfspan.com) include Cazodor, Massimo, Evolution, Club Car, Yamaha, and Cushman.

All part of the social experience

Ultimately, the golf cart lifestyle opens the door to a laid-back, community-oriented way of life that blends convenience with a real sense of social connection. Driving your golf cart around isn’t just about the destination. It’s about the journey—the people you meet and greet along the way as you go about your daily adventures.
